NAS in San Antonio – Sep. 29, Tobin Center for the Performing Arts
Rap icon NAS is widely regarded as one of the greatest lyricists and hip-hop luminaries of all time. Having dropped his debut album “Illmatic” to rave reviews in 1994, it appeared that New York had a new self-styled “King of Hip Hop”. That album hit No. 12 on the Billboard Pop chart and No. 2 on the R&B chart, making it an instant classic with its awesome depiction of inner-city New York, its jaw-dropping wordplay and fresh beats. Hip Hop magazine The Source gave it (one of very few of) a 5 mics rating.
“Illmatic” was followed up by “It Was Written” in 1996, debuting at No. 1 on both the pop and R&B charts. The album featured hip-hop and R&B giants such as Dr. Dre, Lauryn Hill and Foxy Brown, going double-platinum and cementing NAS’ status as a Rap legend.
Willie Nelson & Family – Oct. 6, Floore Country Store
Country music living legend and icon Willie Nelson gave us the evergreen classics “Crazy,” “Hello Walls,” “Red Headed Stranger” and “Stardust”. Nelson’s career has spanned six decades, with more than 200 albums dropped in a career which has seen him earn almost every award available. Time has not prevented Nelson from producing, with 10 new releases in the last 5 years, two which saw him nominated for Grammy awards. Nelson is still one of the most recognizable names in U.S music and maintains his popularity with young and old alike.
A much-loved musician, author and activist, do not miss your chance to witness the great man in San Antonio on October 6, where he will play through his iconic back catalog on a truly special night.
The Weeknd & Gucci Mane – Oct. 19, AT&T Center
The Weeknd is a Canadian Grammy award-winning superstar, singer, and songwriter who was first propelled to fame in 2010 after he uploaded himself singing several songs to youtube. His talent was instantly recognized and following on from this he released his first number one album Beauty Behind the Madness. This album produced two number-one singles The Hills and Can’t Feel My Face. Both of these tracks went on to make history by simultaneously sitting at the top of the Billboard Hot R&B Songs. The Weeknd will be joined by rapper Gucci Mane, who is probably best-known for his song Black Beatles, which earned him a place on the Billboard top 100.
