James Bay Concert Tour
James Bay has postponed his 2018 North American fall tour to spring of 2019. The tour is performed in support of his second studio album called “Electric Light”, released on 18th of May. After the last performance of his spring tour in North America, which took place on 08th of April in Toronto, Bay was scheduled to continue the tour this year in September. However, the artist announced his fans the tour will begin in 2019: “I’m truly sorry to all my fans. Thank you all for your overwhelming support and I can’t wait to be back with you soon.”
The spring tour will kick off on 03rd of March 2019 in Nashville, includes stops in locations like Boston, New York, Los Angeles and Denver and will wrap up on 03rd of April in Seattle.
The fans who have already bought tickets for the postponed tour are advised to contact the point of purchase for more instructions on how to proceed.
Bay worked on the album “Electric Light” with Grammy-winner producer Paul Epworth, who collaborated with Adele, Paul McCartney, U2 and Florence + the Machine. The producer’s touch can be sensed in the epic guitar roars which emerge in some of the tracks or in the thundering drumming that provide grandeur to other songs of the album.
“Electric Light” starts with an intro that sounds like an excerpt from a TV series, reverberating the atmosphere you can find outside any city busy night club. “Wasted On Each Other” instills the intensity of passion that exists between two persons, with the use of a catchy musical jam.

“Just for Tonight” brings in foreground the strums of the acoustic guitars and the energy of the tambourines, while the background vocals transmit the flavor of a gospel song, performed into a small room.
The musical evolution of Bay, compared to his previous album, is obvious in the track “Wild Love”, which brings together the synths sound and musical modulations with an intense passion in Bay’s voice. ”Us” inflicts a raw beauty thanks to Bay’s high vocals, which seems to transform the song into an anthem of those who are looking for someone or something to believe in, while “Pink Lemonade” has all the elements requested by an indie-rock hit.
The titles of the tracks, the hip-hop spoken words, the intensity of Bay’s voice on some of the songs, the fresh note of the melody lines and the power of the instruments, highlighted in the most unexpected ways, make “Electric Light” an album of musical and artistic identity contradiction. A beautiful, motivated contradiction, determined to take fans out of their comfort zone, a comfort zone generated by the expectations of what they will hear on this album.
“There’s a passion and fire and that’s what I’m chasing on this record” said Bay, and we can take his words for granted even before listening to this innovative sounds, fresh classic album.
Born on 04th of September 1990 in Hitchin, England, James Michael Bay was inspired by Eric Clapton’s song “Layla” to play classical guitar when he was only 11 years old. He started to play the guitar after finding an old, rusty, 5 strings guitar in his home. When he was 18, he moved to Brighton to continue his studies and it was there that he started to play at the “open mic” sessions. He strived to write songs that would move people. He signed a record deal and on 18th of July 2013 he released his first EP called “The Dark of the Morning”. This EP gave him the chance to tour in UK and Ireland alongsode the band “Kodaline”.
The next year, in 2014, he released his second EP called “Let It Go”, a song composed by himself and Paul Barry, a British songwriter and musician. The next song he released was a smashing hit: written by himself and Iain Archer, the single “Hold back the river” was #1 in the “US Bubbling Under Hot 100 Singles” (issued by “Billboard”) and in the “Irish Singles Chart” and reached #2 in the “UK Singles Chart”. It received also several Platinum certifications (3 from the “Australian Recording Industry Association” and 2 from recording authorities in Netherlands, UK and Italy).
2014 saw Bay also touring live in America, alongside “Hozier”. The fourth EP, called “Other Sides” was released in January 2015 and two months later, in March, Bay offered fans his first studio album – “Chaos and the Calm”, produced by Jacquire King, an American record producer, engineer and mixer. The album debuted at #1 in the “UK Albums Chart” and was granted 2 Platinum certifications, one in UK and the other one in Canada.
Bay clearly made his way not only to the fans’, but also to the critics’ hearts, who awarded him the “Critics’ Choice award” at the “BRIT Awards”. He took home, the same year, also the “Breakthrough Solo Artist award” at the “GQ Men of The Year” event. In 2016, he received three Grammy nominations: “Best New Artist”, “Best Rock Album” for “Chaos and the Calm” and “Best Rock Song” for “Hold Back the River”. Bay performed also at famous musical festivals, such as “Lollapalooza”, “Isle Of Wight”, “Pinkpop” and “Coachella”.
Bay keeps his private life out of the spotlight, he is an advocate of the international non-profit organization “WaterAid” and has his own fashion collection for men.
