We Can See Greta Van Fleet Live

Greta Van Fleet will continue the “March of the Peaceful Army Tour” this fall with an 11 dates series of shows in the U.S. The autumn sessions kick off 21st of September in Missouri, include stops in locations like San Diego, Las Vegas, and San Francisco, before wrapping up on 15th of October. You can find the full list of dates and venues at the end of this article.

The band’s latest album – “Anthem Of The Peaceful Army”, was released on 19th of October last year. Although the group has been sometimes accused of being too influenced by “Led Zeppelin”, the “Anthem Of The Peaceful Army” album comes to prove that these boys do their own songwriting without any exterior influence. “Lover, Leaver (Taker, Believer)” is all original material, featuring an ascendant construction, a complex solo and high vocals that place the song above others included in the album. The first track of the album – “Age Of Man” is a “quiet” song that debuts slowly and builds momentum gradually, until the point where the intense sound of guitars and drums become dominant. The real rock’n’roll kick of the album is delivered with the track “The Cold Wind”, which sounds like a rhythm transported directly from the mid ‘70s. “Brave New World” is another proof of the group’s great ability to compose original lyrics, whilst “When The Curtain Falls” is a marvelous fusion of Jimi Hendrix and “Led Zeppelin” influences.

One of the highlights of the album is the guitarist Jake Kiszka’s performance: he roars, he sighs, he invokes, everything seasoned with an incredible riff solo that confirms that Greta Van Fleet is the next big thing in rock’n’roll.

In 2012, three brothers from a small town in Michigan called Frankenmuth (or “Little Bavaria”), formed a band. Twins Josh and Jake, alongside their younger brother Sam have recruited Kyle Hauck and together they founded “Greta Van Fleet”. Josh was the lead singer, Jake played the guitar, Sam the bass and Kyle the drums, until he was replaced in 2013 by Daniel Wagner. The Kiszka brothers grew up with vinyl records so their music featured influences mainly from the stadium flavors of “The Who” and “Led Zeppelin”. The frontman Josh started to display an appearance that reminded the audience of Robert Plant’s iconic image.

At the beginning of 2014, the group released the live EP “Greta Van Fleet: Live in Detroit”. Soon after, the band signed a contract with a record company and in 2017 the track “Highway Tune” became the first single from the group’s debut EP called “Black Smoke Rising”. Before being officially released on the EP, the song was featured in an episode of the television show “Shameless” in January 2016. The single reached #1 in “Billboard Mainstream Rock” and “Active Rock” charts in September 2017.

In November the same year, the band delivered their second album “From the Fires” – a double EP which included four songs from their debut album and four new songs. Among the new songs were also covers of “A Change Is Gonna Come” by Sam Cooke and “Meet on the Ledge” of “Fairport Convention”.

The album brought the band international stardom: it reached #1 on “Billboard’s Hard Rock Albums”, top positions on various European charts and even made it to #4 in New Zealand’s charts. This instant celebrity brought to group also collaborations and endorsements from heavy names in the music industry: they opened a show for Bob Seger and Robert Plant stated: “they are Led Zeppelin I”. Moreover, in March 2018 the band performed at the personal request of Elton John at his “Academy Award Party”.

On 26th of July 2018 the band appeared on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon”, where they performed “When The Curtain Falls”, the first single of their official full-length debut album called “Anthem of the Peaceful Army”. The album performed well in sales and was appreciated by fans.

In December 2018, the band appeared on the stage of “KROQ’s Absolut Almost Acoustic Xmas at Los Angeles”, performing alongside bands like “Smashing Pumpkins”, “Bad Religion”, “Thirty Seconds To Mars” and “Florence + The Machine”.

At the 61st “Grammy Awards” ceremony in 2019, the group received two “Grammy” nominations – one for “Best New Artist” and one for “Best Rock Performance” for “Highway Tune”. They lost in those categories, but they took home a “Grammy Award” for “Best Rock Album”, defeating nominees like “Alice In Chains” and “Ghost”.

Greta Van Fleet’s musical style has been labeled as blues rock and hard rock. Although the four band members are fond of blues, they have different musical tastes: Josh appreciates world music, Jake leans towards rock’n’roll, Sam likes jazz while Danny is fond of folk. Among their musical influences we find John Lee Hooker, Keith Richards and Eric Clapton (as Jake’s favorites), Joe Cocker (Josh’s favorite for stage movement) and John Bonham and Carmine Appice as Danny’s influencers.
