The Hawks haven’t always been the Hawks, and they haven’t always been housed in Atlanta. In fact, the team started out as the Buffalo Bisons, a member of the NBL. They were founded in 1946. After leaving Buffalo, the team headed to Illinois, becoming the Blackhawks. A few years later, they dropped the “Black” and moved to Milwaukee. It wasn’t until 1968 that the team officially became the Atlanta Hawks.
As far as the postseason goes, the team has not seen a huge amount of success. They won an NBA Championship in 1958, and they made the NBA Finals a handful of times in the early 60s, but the team was notorious for many years for not ever making it deep into the Playoffs. Interestingly, in all four of the Hawks’ Finals appearances, they played the Boston Celtics. It’s no surprise that this team still remains one of their biggest rivals. Whatever the reason for this might be, that drought has ended, and the Hawks are now one of the top contenders in the Southeast Division. There are a number of strong players on the team right now, and there have been some big names in the past, such as Pete Maravich, Lenny Wilkens, and Tracy McGrady.
Tickets to Atlanta Hawks games are always big items. The next time you find yourself headed to Atlanta, be sure to secure your tickets early so you are not missing out on the action.
