The Pittsburgh Pirates Games are Heating Up
The Pittsburgh Pirates are one of the oldest teams in all of Major League Baseball. Tickets to Pittsburgh Pirates games make for a great family outing or a nice office retreat. Home games are played at PNC Park since 2001, and the Bucs have a huge local following. Fans from all over the country migrate to games, though, and a night at the ballpark in Pittsburgh is like none other. They combine the feel of a small town game with the excitement of a major professional sports team in a way that not many other teams are able to.
The Pirates were formed in 1881, and were simply known as Allegheny. In 1887, they joined the National League as the Pittsburgh Alleghenys. They didn’t become the Pirate until 1891, and they have the distinction of having played in the very first World Series in 1903, which they lost to the Boston Red Sox. Since then, they’ve won five World Series titles, and have had a number of legendary players take the field. Greats like Roberto Clemente, Willie Stargell, Honus Wagner, and Barry Bonds have all played with a Pirates uniform on. Their last World Series championship was in 1979, but they’ve made the playoffs many times since then.
Their biggest rival is the Philadelphia Phillies, thanks to the fact that they are close geographically. Tickets to Pirates games when the Phillies are in town are always hot items, and you often need to buy these before the season begins if you want to get semi-decent seats. Other teams, like the Cincinnati Reds and St. Louis Cardinals, are also fierce rivals because they are in the same Division.
The Pirates have seen some ups and downs over the years as far as success goes, but right now, the Bucs are hotter than ever. They have a young team, and they keep improving, and have made the playoffs as recently as 2015. This is a fun team to watch, and a night out at the stadium is a great event for the entire family, a few friends out looking for fun and a few beers, or anything in between.
